Who’s there?
Interrupting cow.
Interrupt. . .
MOOOOOOO!
Ok, so that knock knock joke doesn’t translate to the written word all that well.
But it’s my favorite.
In case it fell flat, the idea is that you set up the joke just to interrupt them with the loudest / longest moo you can manage.
I love it.
It’s also a great lesson in success.
It’s all about the timing.
Can’t be too early. Can’t be too late. Has to be precisely at the right moment to have the right effect.
That’s true for comedy, that’s true for doing magic tricks, and it’s also true for successful sales.
Sales Call
It’s nothing but timing.
And it starts at the beginning.
If you use zoom or video chat for your conversations, do you say hello before your guest has connected their audio & unmuted themselves? That’s too early.
Do you wait until they say the first thing? That’s too late; bad host behavior.
Do you wait until their device is unmuted, but before they have a chance to feel an uncomfortable silence that they fill with an uncertain “Hello?” Perfect timing.
Then, do you talk about yourself first? Too early.
Do you avoid talking about yourself at all? Too late.
Do you wait until you understand their situation & then tell them that you can help with that? Perfect timing.
It’s all timing.
The right thing done the right way at the right time.
That’s the secret sauce.
Would you like to learn the right timing for more successful sales calls?
Awesome.
I’m going to be running a cohort-based training in the next couple weeks.
It should be an hour a week of live video conference call training combined with a private community where you can ask questions & interact with other students for the rest of the week.
If you’re interested, reply to this note, and let me know so I can get you more details as I have them.
Best thoughts,
