Here’s a weird lesson I learned in art school.
Painting something unreal (like a dragon) forces you to be better at painting real things (like a flower).
When you paint the dragon, something will look off about it. It’s probably something to do with the lighting.
The shadows are all wrong. The highlights are all over the place.
What’s the fix?
Look at reality.
Study how light really behaves in real space.
Once you can really see how light works, and perspective, and color, and shadows, and transitions between them all behave, THEN you can paint a realistic version of something that’s not real.
This lesson also applies to magic/Magicians. Think about cheating at cards. If they want their ‘bottom deal’ to look like they’re “just dealing cards” then they have to know what “just dealing cards” really looks like so they can make the fake version (bottom dealing) look exactly like the real thing.
This principle of getting good at the lie to tell the truth also applies to sales & marketers.
If you want to get better at communicating the truth (talking about how you help / your service / your business) then you should practice communicating something that’s not true.
The better you get at telling believable untruths, the more you appreciate what goes into helping someone understand the real message.
Every thing you do, how you do it, when you do it, what order, what tone, etc. It all needs to be PERFECT.
Now, I’m not saying you should lie to your prospects.
I’m saying you should practice learning a magic trick or take up drawing. Those are two places where you can be an “honest liar” and explore what I’m talking about.
If you’re wondering where you can learn a trick, check out this video I made awhile back. It shows you a trick that’s WAY more impressive than it has any right to be. I learned it when I was under 10 years old so I know you’ll be able to master it in no time.
Best thoughts,

PS: I’m also re-building my courses. I want to share as much of what I know with people who want to transform their lives. I’m setting them more courses, but you can check out a free mindset course, a $5 memory course, and a more expensive sales training course that shares all the secrets I give to corporate workshop attendees. One recent student said he doubled his rates after the third class. Pretty dang sweet!
